“NATURAL FLAVOURS”– NOT AS NATURAL AS YOU THINK

We often see the word natural and assume it’s healthy – but when it comes to “natural flavours”, the reality is less clear. Here are 5 eye-opening facts we think every real food lover should know:

FLAVOUR ≠ NUTRITION

Natural or artificial, flavours are additives. They’re there to boost taste – not your health.

 

LAB-MADE

Both natural and artificial flavours are made in labs. The difference? Natural ones start with a plant or animal source… then get chemically extracted and processed.

 

ONE WORD, MANY INGREDIENTS

“Flavour” on a label can represent a cocktail of 50+ ingredients – including solvents and preservatives. You’d never know what’s really in there.

 

CAN COME FROM ANIMALS

Natural flavours can be derived from animals – even substances like castoreum (from beavers). Not exactly appetizing for vegetarians or anyone avoiding animal products.

 

NOT ALWAYS BETTER

Natural doesn’t mean better. These flavours can still contain additives and might even be more complex – and less tested – than artificial ones.
